My friend Lisa Futterman invited me to a big 50th birthday bash in the Catskills. I looked at a map and realized I could paddle in seven - nine states if I drove instead of flew to said party. So I embarked on a 2,410-mile road trip. First stop: Beautiful West Virginia. I wanted to paddle the New River (bottom photo), but the water was too high and I didn't think I should do it alone, so here I am at Summersville Lake (top photo), which was not shabby. This was the first of many stops with very clear water on this trip. I will get back to the New River someday.
According to Native-Land.ca, this is S’atsoyaha (Yuchi) and Moneton land.
