I spent a lot of time in Boston when I was in college (despite going to college in Nashville and New York; yes, it involved a boy). So, if you had told me at age 21 that I would come back to Cambridge decades later to paddle the Charles River past the Harvard University campus, I would have told you that were crazy. I would have also said, "Not everything in the world revolves around Harvard!" Like many things in life, it was better as a grown-up.
Originally, I wanted to paddle closer to Boston with some skyline views, but the Blue-Green algae levels in the water meant that was not a great option, according to our friends at Paddle Boston. (And provided a handy reminder that no matter where we paddle, keeping pollutants out of the water is essential for recreation and health.) And, we got to get out of the way of the rowers, for the quintessential Charles River experience.
