From almost the beginning of this idea, I was determined to Lake Powell in Arizona (Fun fact: Lake Powell is the second-largest reservoir in the U.S.), as I had seen pictures of paddlers back in the slot canyons. Seeing the way the Colorado River carved through sandstone was too compelling to skip. So, when my business partner at Nashville Paddle Co. was going to be in Sedona leading yoga training, the time was right. The owners of Lake Powell Paddleboards already have paddled all 50 states, and they set us up with boards (and loaded them on the rental car in a manner that made us feel right home). It was a paddle unlike any others, and having great photographers along for the paddle didn’t hurt. No photos exist of the very windy return paddle. This was the last of the lower 48.
